ASICS bounces back with GliderideTM 2 which is an upgrade to the energy saving shoe with GuidesoleTM technology. These are designed for us to experience less fatigue during our runs, conserve energy and run further.

On opening the box, I was impressed by the look of the trainers. The French Blue and Hazard Green colourway works well. The upper has a premium look and feel to it which is an upgrade to its predecessor. It feels reasonably light, the sole feels spongy and there is padding in all the right places. The look and feel had me intrigued to what the trainer would feel like on a run.

On putting them on I noticed that they feel extremely comfortable. The toe box is generous giving room for wide feet and toes to splay. The Engineered Jacquard Mesh Upper keeps my feet cool and securely in place. The EVA insole is spongy, supportive and the tongue and padding provide a snug fit for the ankle. A combination of the GuidesoleTM and FlyteFoamTM technologies ensures the run is springy, smooth, and the trainers are responsive. They handle road, pavements, and park paths very well. During my longer city runs with lots of turns I could feel the improved heel stability. The AHAR+ outsole provides a good grip on pavements and park paths even in wet conditions. I am happy with this as I felt that its predecessor did not perform well on wet surfaces. I felt less fatigued during the latter miles of my long runs and my legs felt fresher the next day. I enjoy running in these for faster 5km up medium tempo double digit longer runs.

The Verdict

I find Glideride 2 a pleasure to run in due the comfortable fit, responsiveness of the foam and the energy saving GuidesoleTM. Motion ID recommends that I wear supportive shoes, and they are a neutral shoe. However, I have found them rather supportive even on uneven pavements and during longer distances. I am looking forward to racing in these.
