Gel Cumulus is one of the classic ASICS’s daily training running shoes for neutral runners. Having been using the Gel Cumulus 22 as one of my regular shoes for easy and recovery runs during the last year, I was really excited to try the newest addition to the Cumulus family. The inspiration (Cumulus clouds) and values (versatility, reliabilty and comfort) behind this serie make Cumulus one of my favorite running shoes.
With a weight of 230g (women shoe) and heel to toe drop of 10mm, the new Gel Cumulus 23 has the following features:
- GEL Technology;
- Gender specific 3D space Construction;
- Engineered mesh upper;
- FLYTEFOAM Technology;
- Recycled material upper.
What’s the novelty
The previous model of Cumulus was providing a very stable and comfortable ride and I am happy that ASICS didn’t change a lot in the newest - Gel Cumulus 23 edition.
The brand new model has extra FlyteFoam cushioning in the midsole for better shock absorption and also a gender specific construction to better reply to the the different gender footstrike patterns.
First impressions and fit
From the moment I unboxed the Gel Cumulus 23, I was impressed, first by its looks (I have the black/ peach combination) and then by its fit and flexibility.
The shoe upper is very soft and comfortable and I also like to know it was made from recycled materials. Running in shoes that are made with concern for the environmental impact and a goal to reduce carbon emissions is a great plus for me.
Coming back from a foot injury, I place great importance to the shock absorption and stability of the shoe. The first run I had with Gel Cumulus 23 was a steady pace 10k and the ride was smooth and very comfortable. The shoe is not very bouncy which I don’t mind because the shock absorption is great. The Flytefoam does its job perfectly in this model.
The fit is true to size and even though sometimes I have difficulty to find a shoe with a good space, in this model I have plenty of room in both, midfoot and forefoot. I tried this model on different surfaces and distances and it always performed. I would say that Gel Cumulus 23 is best for easy and tempo runs but works also for longer runs because it has enough cushioning.
For whom is this shoe
This shoe is the best for new runners that want to pick only one model of shoe for different exercises. It will be a comfortable shoe with good shock absorption that will keep them away from injuries. The Gel Cumulus 23 is the model I advise to get to some of my friends that started running in order to stay active in this COVID period.
Gel Cumulus 23 is also a great shoe for experienced runners who want to have a reliable everyday trainer or a shoe to keep in their rotation. It is also the perfect model for travellers (like myself :)) who want to pack only one pair of shoes in the suitcase and be covered for different sessions.
Pros and Cons
A perfect shoe for daily training that has not only a great shock absorption but is also very dynamic and comfortable. Very versatile, it can be used for almost every running workout including long runs thanks to the great cushioning. It has also a gender specific construction to better respond to the different footstrike patterns of men and women.
One of the models where ASICS shows its commitment to diminish the waste and carbon emissions - the upper mesh is made of recycled materials.
I couldn’t find any drawback, I just impatiently wait for the release of the new model that I will definitely buy.
The GEL-CUMULUS™ 23 shoe's focus is to provide an even smoother and softer ride while implementing gender tailored technology in the men's and women's models. Continuing to draw inspiration from cumulus clouds, we reimagined this neutral running...Köp nu
