ASICS FrontRunner Admire Muzo believes in a balanced (carb & protein) diet as running fuel. "Not all carbs are bad," he says. "In fact, they’re an important part of the athlete’s diet. While the body burns fat and protein, it must first convert them into carbohydrates, making the body work harder."
For Admire he often uses straight carbs act as a fuel. And for that, his go-to is a quick pasta. "Keep in mind that pasta contains fiber, which can cause gastrointestinal stress, so don’t overdo it before a big event where you’ll be competing or playing," he says. "Whole grain pasta typically contains less sugar than white pasta, which can also help athletic performance.”
For a quick pasta Admire goes with:
- Fusilli Pasta (cooked al dente)
- Half a tin of chopped tomato onion mix (cook for 20 minutes seasoning with salt, pepper and garlic)
- Garnish with a few grams of cheddar cheese sprinkled over
- Serve with an avocado (sliced length-ways into quarters)
