ASICS FrontRunner Mariella Sawyer is lining up as one of the 63 Pro women at the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, Nice, France this coming weekend.

In 2018, the event reached the African continent for the first time and was hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. From a sports perspective there is little question that the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship is in a league of its own. Once again, history will be made as the world’s triathlon elite face off at the world-famous Côte d’Azur.

In 2019, over 120 professional athletes and more than 5 500 registered age-group athletes from more than 100 countries, regions & territories, have qualified at one of the global IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 events to race in Nice, France as the event makes its return to Europe after the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship held in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria.

Mariella qualified after her very first race as a pro.

Women will race on Saturday, September 7 and men will race on Sunday, September 8.

Split fields for women and men were introduced at the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. The start of the 1,9 km Roka swim course takes place on the Quai des Etats-Unis. The 91,3km one-loop Ventum bike bourse then leads athletes to the Col de Vence. Most notably there is a 9 km climb at a 6.6 percent average to reach 962m altitude above mean sea level. The HOKAOne One two-loop run of 21,1 km will take athletes along the Promenade des Anglais with the finish line directly located on the Promenade.
