Mimicking long-distance racing

The Fast & Comfortable Run combines two MY ASICS training types in one session: a Fast Run and a Comfortable Run. This type of run is included in plans for fitter and faster runners, and it is designed to make you tired!

Indeed, the point of this training is to mimic the fatigue you can expect after running for a much longer distance. This is done by running the first part fast, taking you above your AT Pace. You then lower your pace for the second part, which requires you to dig deep and keep going even though you’re fatigued by the fast running.

For this reason Fast & Comfortable Runs offer not only good physical training but also very good mental training for the challenge of long-distance racing.

How to do the Fast & Comfortable Run

The training instruction for a Fast & Comfortable Run will include guideline distances and paces for each of the two segments.

  1. Fast Run, performed at your ‘standard’ fast pace
  2. Comfortable Run, a longer run at a lower, more comfortable pace

The Comfortable Run will be much more challenging than usual, as you will already be fatigued from the Fast Run. This level of tiredness will help you get accustomed to the feelings you need to deal with in the final stages of a long-distance event like a half or full marathon.

Tip: If you are very tired after your Fast segment, take a quick break and drink some water or sports drink. This will help you complete the session.
