Say hello to the METARACER, ASICS’s most advanced long-distance racing shoe yet. It was designed to help performance athletes reach their peak and  combines the revolutionary GUIDESOLE™ technology with a carbon plate to give runners more stability.

The shoe has an improved toe-spring shape that reduces the load on the calf muscle by up to 20 percent for better energy efficiency. The shoe also helps athletes to stay fresh, thanks to a lightweight but supportive ENGINEERED MESH upper that keeps feet cool in hot and humid weather. ASICS scientists have found that every degree less heat in a running shoe dramatically improves an athlete’s well-being.

Olympic triathlete Henri Schoeman has been training in the METARACER for some time now. "The energy-saving technology and carbon plate shoe is a real game changer," he said.

"When I laced up the METARACER at first it felt quite different from a usual racing flat. It has a bit of a bounce which is actually quite nice and the comfort of it is very good."

"Once I started getting into my stride I started feeling the efficiency in the way I land to toe off, I noticed that I’m not putting as much effort into pushing off the ground as I would with a normal racing flat shoe at a similar speed."

After a long interval track session, Henri noted that he felt less fatigued than before, almost like I could’ve carried on a bit longer.

According to Henri, the shoe will work for anything from a 5k to a marathon, this, in part to the FLYTEFOAM™ technology in the midsole, which is lightweight and gives both a softer run and improved responsiveness.

And, should that 5k or marathon be in foul weather, the superior materials used on the sole – with ASICS grip™ and WET GRIP RUBBER™ SPONGE - enhances grip even in wet conditions.

A NEW LOOK AT THE NEW LOOK

Originally planning to announce its new shoes at an ASICS Innovation Summit in Tokyo, we took shoe innovation into Virtual Reality, for ASICS’s first product preview in VR.

You can experience the METARACER (along with two other discipline-specific models) up close and personal – in the virtual innovation lab of the ASICS Institute of Sport Science. Hit play below:

“We believe that now, more than ever, it’s really important to remember the positive impact of sport for individuals and society," said Yasuhito Hirota, the President & Chief Operating Officer of ASICS. "Exercise uplifts people, so they achieve a sound mind through a sound body. And what better way to showcase ASICS innovation than taking people to a virtual innovation lab that brings our technology to life,”
