While it was some way off his Personal Best of all time ASICS FrontRunner Stefano Maiorana clocked his fastest 5km time so far for the year in Monaco on Sunday. While the performance was a very heartening ‘step’ in the right direction after recovering from a stress fracture in December, the situation in which it happened, makes it that much more special.

Maiorana was part of the 5km Hercules Dash that saw Uganda's world 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei shatter the 5km road world record by 27 seconds.

The 23-year-old ran 12 minutes 51 seconds to smash the previous record, set by Kenya's Rhonex Kipruto en route to victory at January's Valencia 10k.

“It was such an amazing experience to be on the start line with him and some of the world’s other fastest road runners,” Maiorana said. “It was really cool to be a part of those 400.”
