Struggle with sugar cravings? "Well, they’re actually something that many battle with," says ASICS FrontRunner Mariella Sawyer, a registered dietician

According to Mariella, that 3 to 4pm 'I need a chocolate and what-is-for-dessert-after-dinner...'  feeling may be because you might not be that you are not eating enough wholesome, balanced meals and snacks in the first half of your day.

"Our bodies are very clever in telling us what we need," she says. "If we don’t eat wholesome meals and snacks, we are depriving ourselves and this in turn can lead to low blood sugar levels, which leads to – you guessed it – craving all things sweet and carby."

So what to do?

"Make sure you include a good source of carbs, protein and fat at all meals and snacks," says Mariella, adding that a salad with just lettuce and chicken for lunch won’t cut it.

"Add some butternut or sweet potato. And, when you snack, be mindful of adding some protein there too - eg not just an apple, but add some nut butter or plain yoghurt to the mix. The additional protein will stabilise your blood sugar levels and keep you fuller for longer."
