If you may not know, CBD (or cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid derived from the hemp plant, which does NOT make you high and is 100% legal in the South Africa.

Firstly, legalised CBD does NOT contain high levels of THC (psychoactive component of marijuana), so it’s also impossible to fail a drug test from ingesting it. (The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances – in or out of competition – in early 2018).

Okay, so that is out of the way.

Now, for the even better news: CBD is a massive source of Omega (3 & 6) oils and is believed to have a range of physical and mental health benefits, including easing pain, anxiety and epilepsy symptoms.

"Aside from the numerous other benefits, it is said to help with recovery," explains Georg Horcicka, director of The Leaf Co (TLC), highlighting the fact that it can also help in reducing inflammation and improve sleep. The South African arm of the company imports CBD infused coffee from its head office in Scotland.

According to Horcicka, there is 10mg of CBD in each serving and the Arabica beans come from a single source in South America. The roasting process delivers a smooth, rich tasting coffee with a depth of flavour. "The coffee is infused with full spectrum hemp which is a combination of CBD and hemp oil, which has been said to provide a natural alternative for pain related symptoms, recovery and fitness," he says.

This means you can get the caffeine buzz (read more about caffeine here) while still getting the wellness effects of CBD and hemp oil.

"The dosage is very much up to the individual and their health and recovery needs," Horcicka says. We always recommend that if you are new to CBD you begin with the minimum dosages for a few days and gradually increase your intake.
