Grapefruit may well be the king of fruit breakfasts, but that’s not where
its talents end... adding grapefruit to your diet is just about guaranteed to make you a better runner. Here's why:
- It packs a massive punch of Vitamin C and Vitamin A (more than an orange) – which is exactly what you need to help keep your immune system strong so you can make the most of your training sessions.
- Grapefruit can also help to lower your triglyceride levels (good for your heart and arteries).
- They contain more antioxidants, specifically beta carotene and lycopene – which are both great fighters against most disease and some inflammation.
- Grapefruit has also been shown to possibly help control blood sugar thanks to the fact it has a low glycemic index (around 25). For comparison – a banana is 48, and watermelon is 72.
Eat it all (except the skin!) but including the fleshy white membranes...
